2018 Pacific Masters Long Course Meters Championship
July 8th, July 13th – July 15th, 2018 at Soda Aquatic Center, Campolino High School, Moraga
Santa Rosa Masters Rocked the Relays! – going undefeated in all the relays they entered. Although the team had just 6 participants in this year's Long Course Champs, Santa Rosa managed to compete in four relay events, with credit going directly to Erin Carlstrom's enthusiasm and passion for relays. We are curious to find out where our relays will rank on a national level.
Congratulations to Jean-Philippe Riblet! For a new PacificMasters record of 31.18 in 50 meter backstroke for Men 55-59. Jean-Philippe also won the 100m back and 200m IM, and made new team records in the 200m IM and the 100m Fly.
Sara Jones made new team records for Women 50-54. Sara's winning time for the 400m IM is a new team record of 6:11.03. Sara additionally broke the 200m backstroke team record with a 2:55.23. Sara's additional swims include the 200m IM, 200m Free, 50m &100m backstroke and 50m breaststroke.
Marcela Rueda continues to drop her times. Marcela won all the breastroke events with a 40.17 for the 50m, a 1:28.79 in the 100m and a 3:10.80 for the 200m. Additionally, Marcela swam a full complement of seven events by swimming all three backstroke events and a 200m IM.
Merrie Walts also swam seven events with wins in the 400m IM, 200m IM (team record), 50m & 200m backstroke (team record), 50m & 200m breaststroke (PacMasters record) and a 2nd in 100m backstroke. Merrie took home high point for Women 55-59.
The team benefited greatly by the return of Erin Carlstrom. (That's right – I see team records from 2011 with Erin's name on them.) Erin won the 50m Free in a 29.90 and the 50m Fly in a 32.71, and picked up 2nd in the 200m IM, 100m Free and 100m Fly.
John Morales, age 60, made new team records for the 100m Fly with a 1:13.31 and the 400m IM in a 5:52.54. John took first in the 200m and 800m Free, and was our only competitor for the 1500m Free and swam the 200m backstoke.
Congratulations to Santa Rosa Masters on winning small teams.
