Warm Welcome Back to
Pacific Masters Short Course Yards Championship
dated April 6, 2022
The first SCY Champs in two years was held at the beautiful Morgan Hills Dennis Kennedy Aquatics Center in Morgan Hills.
Over 540 swimmers from 59 clubs signed up for three days of long-awaited competition. Santa Rosa Masters fared well with the team win in the small teams division. This small band of swimmers managed to make 27 new team records. This band includes Holman Pettibone, Christopher Press, Marcela Rueda, Ericka Richards, Sara Jones, Robin Bulman, Chip Pettibone, Merrie Walts, Mark Evans, Dave Rust and Jim Stewart.
Congratulations to Ericka Richards as the high point winner of her age group. Ericka made 5 new team records in the 50, 100, 500 & 1000 freestyle, and in her 50 back. Santa Rosa owned the women’s 40-44 age group as the 2nd highest points belong to Marcela Rueda, with three new team records the hard way: the mile, 200 fly and the 400 IM. Ericka’s 100 free time and Marcela’s 200 fly time broke 18 year old records from 2004. Wrapping up the new team records on the women’s side, Merrie Walts made 5 new team records in the 60-64 age group.
Father and son; Chip Pettibone and Holman Pettibone created 5 new team records. Chip’s records for the 50 & 100 Breaststroke are in the men’s 60-64 age group, while Holman’s 100 & 200 Breaststroke, and 400 IM are in the men’s 18-24 age group. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait 3 and half decades to compare same age times as Chip has a record in the earlier 55-59 age group. We will just sit tight for …2054.
Also in the men’s 60-64 age group, Mark Evans swam an impressive 100 IM breaking an old Hugh Wilder record from 2013. Additional team records were made by Jim Stewart in the 80-84 age group, for 50 & 200 backstroke. Jim’s time in the 50 Backstroke breaks his own record made in November of last year.
But the most team records made at this meet, was 6, made by David Rust, age 75, for 50 & 100 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke and the IM in all three distances: 100, 200 and 400. I bet that 400 IM time of 9:01.86 will still be a record in 2054.
Congratulations Santa Rosa Masters for an awesome performance.
